The Canny Long Training Line is a 15 ft or 23 ft recall leash that gives your dog room to run, sniff and explore while staying attached, so you can practice reliable recall in parks and fields.

How to use

Clip the line to your dog's regular collar or a harness, never to a Canny Collar. Clip the long line on first, then remove the regular leash. Start somewhere quiet, let your dog go out to the end of the line, and increase the distance between you step by step as recall improves.

  • Recall training, adding distance between you and your dog step by step
  • Decompression walks and sniff time in parks and fields
  • Controlled socialization sessions with other dogs and people
  • Dogs that cannot safely be let off leash yet but need room to explore

Who it's for, and who it's not for

  • For: puppies and small breeds (15 ft) or medium to large dogs (23 ft) learning recall, worn with a regular collar or a harness.
  • Not for: use with a Canny Collar, which CannyCo says never to pair with a recall leash, or as a tie-out for a dog left on its own.

Which length should I choose?

CannyCo recommends the 15 ft line, 5/8 in wide, for puppies and small breeds and the 23 ft line, 1 in wide, for medium to large dogs. Both come with a brushed steel clip or a locking carabiner.

Can I use it with a Canny Collar?

No. CannyCo says a long recall line should never be used with a Canny Collar or any head collar, because a sudden stop at the end of the line could hurt your dog's neck. Clip it to your dog's regular collar or a harness.

How do I clean it?

Rinse the line and clip with fresh water to remove dirt, mud or salt water, and use mild soap on a soft cloth for stubborn grime. Pat dry or air dry, then store it somewhere dry.
